Hobo Nickel Souvenir Ring

This Hobo Nickel engraving was inspired by an original coin dated 1936, down to the hand engraved detail of “LIBERTY” which appears on the original nickel. The face of the President was carved into a skull with a beaten up old fedora atop his head. Details on the side feature a shield with three crossed arrows for security and protection. Hobo Nickels date back to the 18th century when altering the face of the President was a popular art form amongst hobos, creating a low cost (twas just a nickel) and patience to create this masterpiece.

History of the Mexican Biker Ring
Known as a Mexican Biker Ring or Souvenir Ring, these rings were popular after the Mexican Civil War when the currency plummeted and the Peso was almost valueless. Jewelers melted the coins down and crafted rings that tourists from America would buy as souvenirs. Biker gangs in border towns would buy these rings in lieu of the illegal Knuckle Dusters aka brass knuckles. These souvenir rings became a legendary style.

The ring face measures approximately 1 inch x 3/4 inch.
